The broker's website shows a license number. How do I know it is genuine?

Do not trust the badge on the broker's website. Go to the regulator's own website and search its public register with the company name or license number. Check that the legal entity, the website address and the license type match what the broker says.

Scammers often copy the name of a real licensed firm (a clone), so compare the domain carefully. Also check the regulator's warning lists.

Remember that a broker may be regulated in one country while the entity serving your country is offshore with weaker protection. Ask which entity holds your account.
